North Yorkshire Businesses Reduce Chances of Success if they Ignore Brand Protection
The Patent Office is holding a free What is the Key? event for Yorkshire businesses on the 26 October at York Science Park to explain why management of intellectual property (IP) is crucial to growing enterprises.
The seminar is run in conjunction with the Chartered Institute of Patent Agents and Institute of Trade Mark Attorneys for the What is the Key? campaign which highlights why IP is a dangerous element to ignore for businesses finding their place in the market.
Business Link York & North Yorkshire is hosting the event where entrepreneurs can learn the latest about patents, trade marks, copyright and design registrations and how they affect their business.
Director of Trade Marks and Designs at the Patent Office Robin Webb says: "Whatever trade you are in, intellectual property rights affect you and, if you manage them wisely, can provide competitive advantage, it is not just a high tech business issue. From the name of the business you trade under to any documents you draft, this is all intellectual property and you need to be confident you are protecting it properly and not accidentally infringing the rights of another business. This could be very costly."
Innovation and Technology adviser at Business Link York & North Yorkshire Roger Benson says: "Protecting Intellectual Property is essential to optimise its asset value to the inventor. Without protection the monopoly is lost and the market is open to copying."
